Inside iPhone 4: FaceTime video calling

Playing up his characteristic “one more thing” showmanship, Apple chief executive Steve Jobs introduced FaceTime for the new iPhone 4 as an easy to use video chat app that works over WiFi. Here’s why it matters, how it’s open, why it’s currently WiFi only, and how it stacks up to other Voice over IP video calling apps such as Skype

iPhone Hacked to Run Android 2.2

If you are stuck with an old iPhone but wish you had an Android device, there’s a way to combine the two, creating a smartphone with the body of the former and the brains of the latter. A recent hack shows how to run the latest version of Google’s mobile OS, Android 2.2 aka FroYo, on Apple’s iPhone 3G. The mod still has a few bugs and isn’t stable enough for everyday use, but it’s a first step towards creating a hacked Android operating system for the iPhone.

Nokia N8 video editor demonstrated on video

In case you thought that iMovie for the iPhone 4 was great, then you probably need to watch this video. I’m not sure how Nokia’s N8 measures up to Apple’s mobile video editor, but I think it is interesting that the N8 lets the user add photos and videos to a storyboard, trim clips, as well as add and even customize titles and transitions

WWE finally has a YouTube account (and with full episodes)

I must be seeing things… is that an official WWE YouTube page , and one that already has last night’s episode of Monday Night Raw online? This is so unlike WWE, embracing technology. They must have hired someone new in recent weeks, someone who told them that, you know, the Internet isn’t merely for “geeks” anymore

Astro A30 Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker headset coming at ya

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker comes out today in North America, and in 10 days in Europe. (It came out in Japan about two weeks ago.) Famous Japanese video game magazine Famitsu gave it a 40/40, so we can safely assume it’s not bad at all. Also not bad, probably?

Nokia Shows Off N8 Photo and Video Editing Features

Not to be outdone by iMovie on the iPhone , Apple ( NSDQ: AAPL )’s hottest new video editing application, Nokia ( NYSE: NOK ) has given us a little video editing demo of its own. The N8, which was pretty much laughed at when it was announced, isn’t a slouch when it comes to photo or video editing itself: you can add and crop images, pictures and videos to your storyboard, trim video, customize transitions, add text titles and so much more. Another helpful feature actually comes in the form of hardware – Nokia’s USB On-The-Go attachment which allows you to use a USB flash stick to transfer files directly to and from the N8 and your thumb drive

Why You Should Avoid Phones With Android Skins

HTC’s Evo might be the last phone running custom software on top of Android that you should even consider buying. Because the whole trend of skinning Android has become a horrible, dividing mess. The problem with an Android phone running a phone manufacturer’s home-brew software, like HTC’s Sense or Sony’s TimeScape, is well-known: You’re going to wait a lot longer to get the freshest version of Android

Want Safari Reader functionality in Firefox or Google Chrome? Try Readability (it’s quite good).

Aside from the usual under-the-hood improvements, Safari 5 ships with a new feature called Safari Reader (seen above). The concept is simple enough: you’re reading text on a Web site but don’t want to be distracted by terrible page layouts and extraordinarily annoying animated advertisements.
