Surprise! “Family Guy” too raunchy for Microsoft sponsorship

When I first heard that Microsoft was going to be publicizing Windows 7 in the legendarily offensive “Family Guy,” I thought “Wow, either Microsoft is cooler than I thought or they’ve never actually seen the show .” Unsurprisingly, it seems to have been the latter . “Family Guy Presents: Seth and Alex’s Almost Live Comedy Show” has already been made, of course, and will air as usual, but it won’t be Microsoft sponsoring its the advertisement-free presentation.

Oh dear: Analyst slashes DJ Hero sales expectations by 50 percent

Interesting note regarding DJ Hero , where “interesting” means “potentially bad news.” One of those fancy analyst types, someone at Cowen and Company, has slashed sales expectations by a little more than 50 percent . That’s nothing to brush aside if you’re Activision. Here’s the juicy part of the report: On DJ Hero, despite some recent positive comments from company management about pre-orders, we remain very cautious about the title’s prospects at launch,” he noted.

Hands-on with the HTC Tattoo hardware…

HTC were kind enough to loan me their newest model, the Tattoo , the other day – and very nice it was too! Like has been the case recently a few times, I am talking a look at the final “release candidate” – for those of your unfamiliar with the handset development process, there are typically a small series of ‘release candidate’ handsets, which are taken out for field testing, used as demo handsets etc – in other words, they are very close to the retail-quality device. My unit felt so polished, I’m pretty sure it was good to go in to shops! Read on to see what I made of the device…

Video play-by-play: The first seven minutes of the new sci-fi TV show ‘V’

To paraphrase the great Joe Rogan, from last Saturday’s UFC 104, I don’t watch much TV, maybe the Discovery Channel here and there to see a documentary or two. I bring this up because I’ve been told to write about some TV show called “V,” and the beauty is that I have no idea what it’s about! My first thought was, “ V For Vendetta ? Oh, no

Mobango reaches five million members

Mobango, which calls itself “the first social mobile application store”, has announced that its global community (read: users) has reached over five million members – who, between them, have downloaded more than 550 million pieces of mobile content so far! Crumbs that’s a good stat attack! The Mobango community is primarily made up of the important and hard to reach, ‘young’ (18-25) and ‘young adult’ (26-34) demographic. Around the world very strong local communities of these age ranges have been built up –the largest currently being in the US, India, UK and Italy, but with Germany and Spain coming up fast. Mobango’s unique strength lies in not only being a mobile site to just download apps, but also being somewhere that members can share apps and personal content with their friends – and interact via their phones

Video – Novatel Wireless MiFi 2352 tour

Recently, I got to play with the Novatel Wireless MiFi 2352 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot! Phew, that’s a mouthful! The unit is variously known as both the ‘MiFi’ and the ‘Intelligent Mobile Hotspot’, due to trademark issues in the UK, but the ‘2352′ denomination is common – it refers to the European version of the unit (the US version is the 2372). Anyway, back to it – if you want to check out how the MiFi performs, see my video below: You can check out details of where to get the 2352 on the Novatel Wireless website . XP1 Power gives you USB cable with 2500mAh battery attached!

The lady above has clearly had XP1 Power, but you might still be wondering what exactly it is! Well it’s fortunate that I can tell you: As more technology and applications, such as Wi-Fi, 3G and Bluetooth are installed into new generations of “Smart Phones”, like Blackberry ( NSDQ: RIMM )’s, iPhone’s and other personal consumer products. There is a considerable amount power that is required to run them, putting a large amount of drain on the battery.

New Nokia netbook next year already?

Rumors are abound that Nokia may be looking to release a new version of its Booklet 3G netbook sometime next year. I use the term “rumors” loosely as the basic idea seems to be that Compal Electronics, the company that manufactures the current Booklet 3G, is “working overtime to satisfy demand,” according to DigiTimes and, therefore, “market rumors are circulating that Nokia will take advantage of its current netbook momentum by releasing a new version in 2010.” Yes, that does indeed sound plausible — why not? A computer product released in 2009 that sells well would probably see some sort of update in 2010

Palm Launches Pixi on Sprint, Claims $250 is $100

Palm’s little Pixi will be available to buy on November 15th, and only from Sprint, the carrier of Palm’s other WebOS device, the Pre, at a price of “$100”. The little phone, which comes with a smaller screen, slower processor and much less slidey-out keyboard, looks to be a sweet little pocket-phone for those who don’t need the power of the Pre, and as such it goes squarely against Apple’s $100 iPhone 3G, itself a cheaper, slower and less full-featured alternative to the 3GS. But while the iPhone 3G will actually cost you $100 in the store, Sprint and Palm force you to endure not one, but two rebates to get to the magic price.
