Analysts over at ABI Research are saying that as of the end of September 2009, there are 100 operators around the world who are trialing, or close to trialing, LTE technology . Of those 100, over 40 of them are in Asia. Close to 200 operators are in the process of upgrading from 3G to HSPA+, increasing download speed to 21 megabits/second; 50 of those operators are in Asia

My first thought on seeing the rather raggedy Multi-Format LED Display Watch was “that thing looks hand made”. Not hand made in the sense of a Vertu phone, put together by craftsmen one precision engineered bearing at a time, but home made as in “A bit of gaffer tape should hold that together OK.” Reading further I discovered that the watch is in fact “hand assembled”, put together from aluminum and acrylic (not two materials usually associated with scratch-free durability). But what this $150 special-edition lacks in looks and materials choice, it makes up for in geek-awesomeness, or geeksomeness

In what seems as a desperate move to stay in power, Iran’s authorities are sending text messages to citizens warning them not to take part in anti-government protests. According to Tabnak , the SMS warns recipients that they have been identified as participants in past protests, and that they should stop attending demonstrations. The reports come ahead of Student Day that is scheduled for December 7th, and which the opposition has vowed to “turn green” in support of the Green movement backing opposition leader Mir Hossein Musavi.

Google Apps (a hosted service which manages corporate contacts, calendar, and mail) plugged in to BlackBerry ( NSDQ: RIMM ) Enterprise Server last spring , but it was targeted to mid-range companies. Well, App Connector has been updated to version 1.5, and with it has come better scaling both for larger and smaller enterprises. For the higher end, Google ( NSDQ: GOOG ) has bumped up the per-server support to 500 from 250 devices, and for the smaller companies, Google Apps has embraced BlackBerry Professional Software , for rollouts of 30 and under. Just keep in mind that there were rumors awhile back that RIM was going to be ditching BPS , although Unite! was the only thing that ended up getting cancelled

The original XPERIA Pureness If you thought Sony Ericsson ( NYSE: SNE )’s high-fashion XPERIA Pureness was pretty enough to make up for its low-tech attitude and nothing-to-cough-at price, you’re in luck. Sony Ericsson is apparently planning to launch a follow-up to the XPERIA Pureness with a Pureness 2. According to Electricpig , the Pureness 2 isn’t anywhere close to an official announcement (let alone a launch), but early reports indicate that Sony Ericsson is looking to create a more simplified and stripped-down Pureness phone.

Aside from being preloaded on the BlackBerry ( NSDQ: RIMM ) Storm2 and getting rolled out on the original Storm , Microsoft ( NSDQ: MSFT )’s search engine, Bing, is continuing its spread on mobile. An over the air download link for the BlackBerry Tour 9630 version has bubbled up, the 8530 Curve2 is apparently preloaded with it (though I don’t see it on my unit), and a knowledgebase article is talking about new features in the 8300-, 8500- and 8800-series.

RIM’s desktop app for syncing up your BlackBerry ( NSDQ: RIMM )’s media card with iTunes and Windows Media Player has just been updated to version 3.0, now allowing two-way picture syncing. That means not only will your pictures be automatically offloaded to a particular folder, but if you’ve taken some nice pictures with a real camera and want to have them on your BlackBerry, they’ll be pulled in.

Finland has just finished their auction for the 2600 MHz frequency spectrum that will be used in deploying future high speed LTE networks. Earlier this year Finland held an auction for the 1800 MHz frequency band to be used for LTE, since a lower frequency would do a better job at penetrating walls and give longer range. This move was viewed as strange, and elicited the same kind of WTF reactions people made when T-Mobile ( NYSE: DT ) announced that their 3G would be built on the 1700 MHz band.
