Awesome parody of iPhone ads by UK newspaper

This must be the best take-off of the year by one of the red-top newspapers in the UK The Sun, which is celebrating 40 years of informing the nation this year, has parodied the iPhone advert in ad for their own newspaper. There are some excellent mirth-making touches in this little vid – I highly recommend you watch and be amused This must be the best take-off of the year by one of the red-top newspapers in the UK …

New track from Beyonce – Videophone (no phones in it though)

Hmmm  - following on from my last post about placement of mobile devices in videos, I was expecting a ton of them to pop up in Beyonce’s latest music video – given the song is called Videophone… Well you’ll be disappointed – there’s no product placement of any mobile devices, in fact, it’s got some potentially questionable content (at least that’s what the UK press/members of parliament think…).

New off-road military vehicle for Afghanistan looks solid as hell

After watching Generation Kill , my anxiety for our troops went up quite a bit. War is an ugly business to begin with, but when you’re driving around a battlefield in an unarmored Humvee with electrical problems, it tends to look even uglier. Afghanistan is still an extremely hairy theater, and the vehicles they’ve had over there over the years ( years , people) just weren’t cutting it

Let’s play spot the N97…

Okay so I don’t watch that much TV, but I within that small amount I do see, there’s probably an unhealthy ratio of RnB videos. Say what you want about my preferred genre music (I’m not fussed!), but they has been a trend in recent years for mobile devices to be shown in them quite blatantly! I remember back in the day, the Black Eyed Peas ‘Let’s get it started/Let’s get retarded’ (the first title was the pop-friendly one, the second was it’s original name on the album) had one of the most in-yer-face product placements ever – for Sony Ericsson ( NYSE: SNE ) if I remember right.

Announcing my new mobile payment startup: Circle, because Square is for squares

When looking at how people use money in today’s world, we thought to ourselves, how can we make it better? Circle was started because one day, on the mean streets of New York City, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder Stefan Constantinescu could not sell a teenager a dime bag of marijuana because the poor bastard didn’t have any cash. The academically challenged High School student only had a credit card tied to his parent’s checking account

Motorola’s Android-powered Sholes tablet breaks cover, HDMI port spotted!

The mythical Motorola ( NYSE: MOT ) Sholes tablet is starting to become reality. Since before the launch of the Android-powered Motorola Droid and its slide-out QWERTY keyboard, we’ve been hearing rumors that Motorola has a slate-style (tablet) variant in the works – the Sholes tablet. We’ve been dying to see what the presumably thinner, more powerful candybar Droid/Sholes would look lie, and today we’re happy to say that we’ve been given a glimpse of the upcoming Android phone. Thanks to Mobile01 , we now know that the Motorola Sholes tablet picks up where the Droid left off

The stars align: Google Maps 3.3 for Symbian and Windows Mobile allow you to sync saved locations

Google ( NSDQ: GOOG ) Maps, probably one of the best mobile applications ever created, and one I use multiple times a day since my navigation skills have totally atrophied since getting a Nokia ( NYSE: NOK ) N95 in 2007, has just been upgraded to version 3.3.

AT&T ranks last in Consumer Reports’ satisfaction survey

AT&T ( NYSE: T ) just can’t seem to shake the bad publicity that’s recently been riding its tail . Verizon ( NYSE: VZ ) Wireless is already bashing on AT&T’s 3G network for its spotty 3G coverage maps, and now Consumer Reports lists AT&T as the worst US wireless carrier as far as cellular service satisfaction is concerned. Consumer Reports surveyed some 50,000 consumers across 26 different cities in the US, and came away with the finding that Verizon Wireless was consistently ranked the best while AT&T consistently came in last

Square: A nice idea on paper, but a nightmare to implement and a small market to attract

One of Twitter’s founders, Jack Dorsey, just launched Square . It’s yet another company that attempts to tackle the issue of making mobile payments work, but instead of trying to become a completely new payment processor, they are depending on the existing infrastructure of plastic credit cards built by Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

Apparently the writers of V have never used an iPhone in NYC

AT&T is just plan awful in parts of NYC, but yet Tyler, from the ABC show V , managed to get reception on his iPhone high above NYC in a gigantic spaceship. How is that possible when I know for a fact that the iPhone is basically useless in most parts of the city? Rubbish.  Maybe, just maybe, we’ll find out in a later episode that each V spaceship is actually part of an evil AT&T plan, but a side effect is that each ship actually improves cellular reception. Most iPhone owners would probably welcome alien overlords if they could actually use their phones around New York, San Fran, LA, Boston, and the rest of the major US cities

ToS Update Suggests Android 2.1 Launching December 11

If those screenshots of the HTC Hero have whet your palette for Android 2.1, it may be arriving sooner than you think. Google ( NSDQ: GOOG )’s official Android site got a significant facelift recently, and more importantly, the application Market terms of service have been updated and go into effect December 11; we’re left only to assume that these both signal an OS update to deliver said Market changes

SEGA Puts More Primates in Spheres For Our Amusement; Super Monkey Ball 2 Released for iPhone

Last year, SEGA released Super Monkey Ball on the iPhone.  The title was a port of SEGA’s successful Super Monkey Ball series that first started on the Nintendo Gamecube in 2001, but since then has made it across multiple platforms.  Super Monkey Ball was also used in demoing the iPhone’s ability to run games with a fully rendered 3D environment. The original Super Monkey Ball performed great with how responsive the controls were when tilting the iPhone, but it left much to be desired in terms of multiple game modes and its overall graphics.  Super Monkey Ball 2 takes the already addictive gameplay found in the original and puts a ton of polish on it.  The Main Game doesn’t just allow you to play through 115 tracks, but it also features Practice Mode, Mini Games, and even a multiplayer mode that allows for up to 4 players to play over a local WI-FI connection.  The character models also received an update.  Instead of the 2D-ish sprites in Super Monkey Ball, Aiai, Gongon, MeeMee, and Baby all are rendered in full 3D. Super Monkey Ball 2 retails for a premium price of $9.99, but considering how much work went into it, the purchase can definitely be justified.

New enhanced version of Shazam launched on Nokia’s Ovi Store

Shazam has just launched an enhanced version of their application and service on Nokia ( NYSE: NOK )’s Ovi Store. Shazam, if you haven’t heard of it before, is a service that allows you to identify songs that are playing over loud speakers. Simply hold your mobile phone up to a speaker, the application then records a short sample, transmits it to Shazam’s servers, identifies the song, and then spits back that information back to your handset

EA Bringing Mirror’s Edge to the iPhone

EA announced early this morning they will be bringing Mirror’s Edge to the iPhone.  Mirror’s Edge was released late last year on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC and it follows the story of Faith who is a member of a group of runners who are vital in transporting sensitive information as the world is under the control of a totalitarian regime where communication is heavily monitored.  The main selling point for Mirror’s Edge was it’s First-Person running perspective.  Players had the ability to perform amazing acrobatic feats, such as jumping, sliding, and vaulting, all from the Faith’s perspective. Not much is known about Mirror’s Edge for the iPhone, but the screenshots released today indicate the game will not be played from the perspective of Faith, but instead will be played in a third person view across 14 levels.  If it’s anything similar to the fan-made flash version of Mirror’s Edge , or maybe even Canabalt , then we’ll be in for a treat when the game launches in January 2010

Net Nanny, SMobile Systems team up to launch Net Nanny Mobile

ContentWatch, the developer of the popular child-protecting Net Nanny software, and SMobile Systems released Net Nanny Mobile , to provide parents with more tools to protect their kids from “misconduct, exploitation, unwanted communications, sexting, loss and theft, cyber bullying, malware and online predators.” In that sense, parents can monitor their kids’ phone a la Big Brother; track their moves via GPS (Google ( NSDQ: GOOG ) Maps); conduct remote backups, locks and restoring of the data; filter calls and SMS; and so on. The only problem is that a smartphone is required — Windows Mobile, BlackBerry ( NSDQ: RIMM ), Symbian S60 or Android — which makes me think – if you’re going to spend more on you kid’s handset (smartphones are more expensive), don’t you trust your child to at least a bit take care of itself. If the answer is “No” and you like what Net Nanny and SMobile have to offer, prepare to pour out $30 a year to keep your kid safe, at least in the mobile realm… Related News from IntoMobile: Spb Backup 2.0 for Windows Mobile released; Smarter, twice as fast, easier to use!
