Bon Voyage: Motorola Milestone Available in France

Germany and the UK have been getting their taste of the Motorola ( NYSE: MOT ) Milestone (better known as the droid on this side of the pond), and now France gets to join in the fun. Online retailer Rue du Commerce is offering it unlocked, SIM-free for 549 Euros , which is knocked down to 520 for their holiday sale going on right now. A lot of folks would prefer to hold out for a carrier-subsidized handset, but Rue du Commerce does offer payment plans that split up the cost into three or five chunks

Universal is rolling out the dual-format disc beginning with the Bourne trilogy ( Bourne Identity, Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum ). Each Flipper disc will cost about $30 — about the same as most Blu-ray titles cost brand new

Yet another game, CrimeCraft, refused classification in Australia

There’s almost a comedy about this next story: Australia has banned another video game because it’s too violent. (What is it with Australia and banning violent video games?) The game is CrimeCraft , and it has been refused classification by the ratings board down there. The game was refused classification because “there is insufficient delineation between the ‘fictional drugs’ available in game and real-world proscribed drugs.” In other words, the in-game drugs aren’t “fake enough” for the Australian Classification Board

It’ll linger for a week: Japanese security system sprays stinky smell on thieves

Does anyone remember the Japanese anti-burglar mat for stores and restaurants I blogged a few months ago? Well, there’s another security system from Japan and it clearly raises the bar: It’s a new mechanism, dubbed Capture, for these places and it sprays stinky agent on thieves who won’t be able to get rid of the stench for a week.

Some more Psystar news for y’all. You’ll recall that the renegade company was more or less shut down last week, slapped with an injunction and expected to pay Apple an awful lot of money. Put all of that aside for a minute, for there’s new news: Apple and Psystar have struck a deal ! The deal, which ends a 17-month-long legal battle, means Psystar will stop selling computers pre-loaded with Mac OS X.

Nokia releases Qt 4.6, works on Symbian, Windows 7, Mac OS X 10.6, Maemo 6

Nokia ( NYSE: NOK ) purchased Qt almost 2 years ago and since then have been working tirelessly to bring the native C++ runtime, with bits of C and Webkit mixed in, to both Symbian and Maemo platforms. In a world less cruel than the one today, Nokia would write an application in Qt and it would run on both a Symbian and Maemo powered device with no porting required

Nokia got in trouble with Nintendo for showing off SNES on the N900 [Maemo]

Earlier this year, in September, Urho Konttori, Project Manager at Nokia ( NYSE: NOK ), showed off a Super Nintendo emulator called DrNokSnes on his Nokia N900. The first sentence of my article highlighting that demonstration was: “The amount of lawyers with dollar bills in their eyes right now is astronomically large.” It didn’t take long for Nintendo to spot Nokia’s mistake, and now they’re being investigated. Nintendo Senior Public Relations Manager for the UK, Robert Saunders, said: “We take rigorous steps to protect our IP and our legal team wille examine this to determine if any infringement has taken place.” Nokia has already taken down one video, but Urho’s is still up on YouTube

Nokia ( NYSE: NOK ) will be shipping an XpressMusic device to the world’s largest mobile operator in terms of number of subscribers – China Mobile ( NYSE: CHL ) — or at least the carrier’s logo on the phone suggests so. Expect a 2-inch QVGA screen, 2-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, “advanced music player,” and of course a microSD expansion slot (a 1GB card is included in the box)

Saddle-Bag Glows in the Dark, Swallows Tools

Woho makes a range of small bike bags which are most likely to be used for tool kits, but could also be great for carrying cellphones, iPods and cash. The lineup consists of handlebar and saddlebags, but here we’re looking at the Classic Roll, partly because it sounds so tasty, and partly because you can hang it just about anywhere. The classic roll is made from a translucent vinyl-like material which keeps the water out (the zipper is also weatherproof) and because it is see-through, you can throw a light inside and have the whole sack glow

Remote Display Lets You Use Camera from 500 Feet

The Pro-View wireless camera display squints its eye up to the viewfinder so you don’t have to. The two-part gizmo uses a video camera to peek into the optical viewfinder of a DSLR and beams the image up to 500 feet where it can be viewed on a 640 x 480 LCD screen, similar to the resolution on the last generation of DSLR cameras (around 3K pixels). The transmitter comes in a variety of fits designed to work with most DSLRs from Canon, Nikon, Olympus and Sony, and you can use up to four of these with one screen/receiver unit, flipping between them or showing all four on screen at once

India blocks millions of handsets

Indian operators should start blocking several million mobile phones starting from today, December 1st, as part of the government decision to ban handsets without a valid IMEI. According to earlier estimates, there were as many as 25 million handsets being used without an IMEI number, though that number shrank as the deadline announced by the government approached. While operators have been offering a reprogramming service to insert a valid IMEI into the handsets, it is thought that there are still millions of potentially illegal handsets in use
