AT&T to Charge iPhone Users On A Pay-Per-Byte Model?

In an article in the Wall Street Journal yesterday, AT&T Mobility CEO Ralph de la Vega talked about the crappy 3G coverage in key areas such as New York and San Francisco, which he admitted are “performing at levels below our standards.” According to de la Vega, the good news is AT&T is working on it.

The Best Twitter App for iPhone

There are hundreds of Twitter apps for iPhone in the App Store but after weeding out those with useless features, bad UI and the such, it basically comes down to a handful of applications that deserve our attention. I’ve been asking people on Twitter what’s their favorite iPhone Twitter app and I’ve been keeping track of the results. I’ve also had a close look at these 2 polls to come up with what I think is the ultimate list of the best iPhone apps for Twitter .

Rihanna gets its own S60 touch app, compliments of Nokia

Nokia ( NYSE: NOK ) launched the Rihanna app for S60 touch phones (as far as I’ve understood) such as the Nokia N97, Nokia X6 and Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. The exclusive application (as Nokia emphasizes) delivers news, music, photos and video content to Rihanna fans. That video content part is especially underlined, as it includes live performance clips from Rihanna’s album launch event

iPhone App Reports Dropped Calls, Poor Voice Quality to AT&T

AT&T iPhone customers are more familiar than anyone with network problems ranging from spotty 3G coverage to dropped calls. To pin down the areas of network weaknesses, AT&T has released an iPhone app inviting customers to report issues directly from the problematic area. Called “Mark the Spot,” the free app allows you to choose from five issues: dropped calls, failed calls, no coverage, data failure or poor voice quality

Wal-Mart starts video game price war, cuts prices of games by $10

It’s so, so easy to hate on Wal-Mart, what with destroying this country’s mom and pop culture, importing cheap junk from China, and freaking out whenever employees mention the word “union.” But if you’re a gamer, you really ought to cast aside your prejudices, brave the crowds , and find the games you’ve always wanted for a good $10 less than what you’ll find elsewhere. That’s right: we’re having ourselves a good old fashioned price war . Wal-Mart has taken it upon itself to sell video games this holiday season (not sure if it’s a permanent thing or not) for $10 less than you’ll find at GameStop, Best Buy, Amazon, etc

Google Maps for Android Shows What’s Nearby, Plus New Maps Labs

I would be sick of all of these Google ( NSDQ: GOOG ) announcements if they weren’t all so unanimously cool. Google Maps for Android is getting a few extra goodies, starting with “What’s nearby?” As you might expect, it shows all of the Google Maps listings closest to your GPS location. Simple, and an effective way of knowing what’s nearby without actually having to look away from your phone (heaven forbid)

Breathe easy, friends – Pantone has finally announced the 2010 color of the year

Geez make us wait FOREVER, Pantone! You have no idea how excited I was to see amongst the near-endless list of press releases this morning that PANTONE HAS FINALLY ANNOUNCED THE COLOR OF THE YEAR FOR 2010!!! Without further ado, it’s #15-5519 Turquoise! According to the press release: “Combining the serene qualities of blue and the invigorating aspects of green, Turquoise evokes thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a languorous, effective escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing.” On behalf of everyone: I can’t wait! When I’ve got trouble on my mind, when my old lady’s done left me and my dog’s done left me too, I’m gonna pull out my Pantone color swatch and let it all… melt… away. And good riddance to 2009’s color of the year, am I right?! I mean, #14-0848 Mimosa?! Who are we kidding here

World’s First Bionic Fingers Make it Easy to Poke and Prod

Touch Bionics, a U.K-based company, has created the world’s first powered bionic fingers that can be used by patients with missing fingers. ProDigits , as it is called, can help its users bend, touch, pick-up and point–reflecting almost all the key functions of a natural hand. The prosthetic fingers are for those who have a partial-hand, where the absence of fingers is either due to congenital anomalies or amputation, says Touch Bionics.

Google Real-Time Search Results Coming to Android and iPhone

In the flurry of Google announcements yesterday, one story made it through the cracks: real-time search results for Android and iPhone. In short, Google ( NSDQ: GOOG ) is including a little ticker in searches for hot, current topics that includes super-recent content from blogs, Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, FriendFeed, Jaiku and Identi.ca. This can be great for breaking news that will come from on-the-scene sources before it gets chewed through bigger media and eventually indexed

Folding Plug System: An Antidote to Britain’s Power Paranoia

Min-Kyu Choi’s redesign of the frankly over-protective, nannying design of the UK power-plug first popped up back in April, and we posted the video of the concept renderings and test models. More than half a year later and Choi’s design, the Folding Plug System , has become a svelte plastic product with a few new twists, both literal and figurative. The problem with the UK’s three-pronged monster is its unwieldiness.

Pac-Man Championship Edition for iPhone Will Cure Your Pac-Man Fever on Thursday

Namco is bringing its successful Pac-Man Championship Edition to the iPhone / iPod Touch this Thursday.  Pac-Man Championship Edition was originally released Summer 2007 on the Xbox Live Arcade with a positive response from reviewers. In Pac-Man Championship Edition, Namco takes the classic gameplay mechanics of Pac-Man and adds a fresh coat of updated graphics and two game modes, Mission & Championship, with an additional Challenge mode that can be purchased through an expansion pack.  Mission mode challenges players to complete a specific task such as collecting 3 pieces of fruit, or eating a specific number of ghosts in order to complete the mission.  Players can revisit a mission to attempt to complete it at a different difficulty level.  Championship mode feels more like the traditional Pac-Man game, but instead of progressing by way of eating all the pellets in a level, this mode requires you to beat the top score within a time limit. There are four different control schemes to play Pac-Man Championship Edition so anyone should be able to find a way to play comfortably.  The only thing I wish Namco would have included were leaderboards so I can compare my score with my friends.  Hopefully Namco offers something in the future (might i suggest Facebook integration?) because as of now, Pac-Man Championship Edition has a lot going for it.  There’s no word on pricing, but the XBLA retails for $10.
