Brief: Nokia Siemens Networks CEO Rajeev Suri: Forget about profits, we need market share, ASAP

Rajeev Suri has only been the CEO of Nokia ( NYSE: NOK ) Siemes Networks since October 1, 2009, yet he managed to drop this quote in Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat : “In early 2008 we made a strategic decision to focus more on cash flow and profitability than on the market share. Now it’s time to give it up and to focus solely on the market share.” If you have any Nokia or Siemens stock, now may be the best time to dump it. [Hat tip to Reda!] If you’re a wireless operator looking to roll out a brand spanking new network on the cheap, call Rajeev, he give you a very good price my friend! Nokia Executive Vice President Anssi Vanjoki: We may sell our handset manufacturing business

Nokia ( NYSE: NOK )’s Anssi Vanjoki has always been the one executive from Finland who provides, on a near consistent basis, one line quotes that are ridiculously memorable. He called the camera in the iPhone a “toy camera”. When he announced Ovi in London in August 2007 and then proceeded to demo a concept of what Nokia’s touch user interface may look like, he said the company can “ copy with pride “.

Real time, real discussion, real reporting: choose two

As you likely know, Tiger Woods was in an accident under apparently mysterious circumstances early Friday morning. Predictably, the reports and reactions thereto pertaining varied somewhat in quality and timeliness, and predictably, this has led to paroxysms of futurist glee in some and sullen condemnation by others. Now that the smoke has cleared, we can examine the event, which is certainly worth a little inspection despite its obvious triviality, with a little perspective.

Walter Cronkite, the man, is in no way, shape, or form similar to Twitter, the medium

I promised myself I would keep my laptop shut off this weekend so that I could do some actual reading, as in you know, from a book, but after reading MG Siegler’s piece in TechCrunch titled “ In The Age Of Realtime, Twitter Is Walter Cronkite ” on my mobile fone, I knew I had to post a response. Some back story: Tiger Woods, the professional golfer, was involved in a car accident

MiKandi Adult App Portal Launched for Android

While we’ve seen the envelope being pushed on adult content in officially sponsored app stores like the Android Market and iTunes , there’s really been no proper home for those raunchy apps so cruelly cast out into the cold. Fret not, lascivious reader, MiKandy is hoping to change that with their own Adult App Store for Android. I’ve checked it out for strictly editorial purposes (honest), and there’s nothing loaded in there yet, but it looks like things are still largely under construction.

Samsung starting ‘gone in 60 minutes’ competition in UK

Talk about being able to increase the odds of you winning something in an ongoing competition (in the UK) – Samsung Mobile are giving away a prize every hour, starting Monday 30th November! There are some pretty sweet prizes too – apart from making some great Mobile devices, Samsung are rather (read: very) well known for their other consumer electronics equipment – and by the looks of things, this is on offer too! To be in with a chance of winning, you need to register on samsungmobile.co.uk – and then once the competition is running, you need to submit an answer to a question within each hour (for which the answer will be on the Samsung, or partner, website) to be in with a chance of winning! As I said, a prize per hour shouldn’t be sniffed at - you might win an entry-level Mobile device, or something even nicer – either way you’ve got to be in it to win it. Check out the info about the competition here . Lenovo Buying Back Mobile Division for $200 Million

We haven’t heard much from Lenovo ( OTCPK: LNVGY ) since their OPhone made the rounds last year , but the company is starting the process of getting back their cell phone brand for $200 million, pending investor approval. Considering the laptop manufacturer originally sold their mobile division almost two years ago for $100 million to refocus on their core business, that’s a pretty steep loss, but good news for the buyer, Hony Capital. The buy-back is a result of “changed market conditions of the past 18 months”, and honestly, pretty good timing considering the growing Android hype in China right now . I’m curious if OPhone development was put on hold after the original acquisition, or if Hony actually cranked out the product to increase the company’s value

Savant’s Home Automation by iPhone Comes to Canada

Savant has been selling an iPhone app called Rosie since last September that allows users to command just about all things electronic in the house: lighting, security, and home entertainment. By combining a hardware hub at home with a monitoring server, subscribers can remotely control many functions, like security (cameras), climate (A/C and furnace), and entertainment (TV and stereo). While that’s a little swanky for a private residence, I could see lots of solid commercial applications for something as unified and mobile as Rosie

Microsoft Bringing Silverlight to iPhone?

Nobody’s really holding their breath to see Flash on iPhone , but of all companies, Microsoft ( NSDQ: MSFT ) might be the one to offer a reasonable alternative. Microsoft UX Platform Manager Brian Goldfarb was demoing Silverlight working on an iPhone to wirelessly stream H.264 video at the Professional Developer Conference ‘09 . Now, it’s a bit of a mis leading to think Apple ( NSDQ: AAPL ) and Microsoft are collaborating closely on this project; it’s the Microsoft guys doing the heavy lifting, Apple simply gave the go-ahead
