AT&T turns on 7.2 Mbps HSPA, deploying fiber backhaul to towers during 2010 and 2011

As a response to T-Mobile’s decision to turn on 7.2 Mbps today it appears that AT&T has done the same thing . Realistically speaking these two events were probably scheduled months in advance and press releases were written several weeks prior, but I’ll ignore the logic and just say it’s AT&T responding to T-Mobile ( NYSE: DT ) and then going one step further and calling them a nasty poo poo head. AT&T is also saying that they’re going to “dramatically increase the number of high-speed backhaul connections to cell sites, primarily with fiber-optic connections, adding capacity from cell sites to the AT&T backbone network”.

Google bringing Nexus One to Verizon in Spring 2010

The Nexus One is live ! But, there’s a catch. Google’s own-branded Android “superphone” (a term that Google termed to describe their Nexus One) is so far only compatible with GSM networks like AT&T ( NYSE: T ) and T-Mobile ( NYSE: DT ) USA.

New audio sampler tool for DJs appears – in the shape of an iPhone app!

Against the Grain Media have enlisted the promotional help of DJ Krafty Kuts to launch their sampler tool application for the iPhone! This sound effects tool which comes pre-loaded with over 100 samples including MC shouts, classic dub sirens, bass drops, rises and many more useful noises to spice up your set. “I wanted to produce a sampler style app which could actually be used by DJs in clubs or on the radio” says Krafty Kuts, pointing out that this is the first iPhone App of its kind suitable for professional use. Having the ability to drop samples like ‘Make Some Noise In Here!’ along with big ‘woosh’ and ‘lazer’ noises over my mixes, without the need for a laptop or third turntable is amazing!” The app is priced at £2.99, which I’d say is reasonable – if it replaces the need to have another sampler source in your DJ setup, then it’s a steal! Looking at the UI, it’s in the same style as you’d find on sampler hardware, with nice big trigger pads on screen

Though we have absolutely no idea about the new Palm Pre Plus, we can guess it will be slightly better than the original Palm Pre. Sometimes the phone will differ on the internal memory or it will feature a better camera. Whatever be it, for those ignorant of the Palm Pre; it has support for Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, 3-megapixel camera with LED flash, 3.5mm headset jack, and a microSD card slot.

HP Trademarks “Zeen” and “Airlife”

Hewlett-Packard ( NYSE: HPQ ) has registered the trademark for two terms, explicitly related to mobile handsets and computing: “Zeen” and “Airlife”. While I can’t defend or explain their choice of monikers, they’re certainly intriguing. HP’s been making a little bit more noise on the mobile front lately, with the iPAQ Glisten coming to AT&T last month, and talk about a new social networking app at last spring’s WES, but they’re still not a big deal in the cell phone circle.

AT&T petitions FCC to abandon landline phone connections

In a world where 1 out of every 5 US homes have shunned landline phones in favor of a wireless-only lifestyle, it’s clear that wireline phone service is dying a slow death. Every year, more and more Americans are opting to use their mobile phones as their only means of communications. AT&T ( NYSE: T ) apparently wants to hasten the death of the wireline telecom infrastructure that, for decades, was its core business
