Promptu Systems announced that it will bring its ShoutOUT voice-to-text mobile application, powered by PayPal X, to the Android platform (it was the iPhone thing only, until recently). The release date is scheduled for Q1 2010, when interested users will be able to manage such tasks as send text messages and updates to Facebook and Twitter without typing a word. As for the PayPal’s role, their new Adaptive Payments APIs sits at the backend, enabling purchasing of ShoutOUT voice credits… And that’s about all we have at this stage

The post-apocalyptic massively multiplayer online role-playing game , Fallen Earth , has just announced an in-depth iPhone app that lets you take care of quite a bit of in-game business from your mobile. Father of the internet integrates intergalactic IP protocol into Google’s Android

Vint Cerf, who many herald as the father of the internet, it was either him or Al Gore, neither you or I really care, is one hell of a forward thinking individual. He developed Delay Tolerant Networking (DTN) in the late 1990s because he knew that one day men and women would be flying all around space, and the ping between Earth and Mars, which can have a round trip time of up to 40 minutes, is not well suited to looking at LOLcats and all the terrible remixes of that scene in Der Untergang where Hitler is in the bunker freaking the fuck out. The Internet Protocol Suite, more commonly known as TCP/IP, which was invented in the 1960s, and further evolved in the 1970s, is what drives the series of tubes that you and I use on a daily basis.

Rumor: Next generation iPhone to be RFID enabled

Chalk this one up as a highly suspicious piece of information, but Einar Rosenberg, who is in charge of the Near Field Communications group on LinkedIn, a social network no one really uses anymore except those trying to find a higher paying job and to show off which fancy schools or companies they’ve worked for, is saying that a highly reputable source has told him that there are 4th generation iPhone prototypes floating around with a built in RFID reader: Had to share this news. A highly reliable source has informed me that Apple ( NSDQ: AAPL ) has built some prototypes of the next gen iPhone with an RFID reader built in and they have seen it in action. So its not full NFC but its a start for real service discovery and I’m told that the reaction was very positive that we can expect this in the next gen iPhone

Google ( NSDQ: GOOG ) and Best Buy have announced a partnership whereby Best Buy employees will offer to install the Google Mobile Application for customers purchasing mobile phones from a retail Best Buy store. Usage review: Groovemaker Electro for iPhone/iPod Touch

Anyone that regularly reads IntoMobile will know that I think the Groovemaker range of Apps are awesome – sitting in a perfect niche between recreational music, and professional music production – they are kinda like the guitar hero of mobile music production, but there’s real productivity in here too – it’s no game! So just the other day, IK Multimedia, the creators of Groovemaker, released two new versions of the application – Electro and Drum n Bass (here). In this post, I’m writing down my thoughts on the Electro App, having used it quite extensively! More after the jump…. Download, loading, and opening tracks Groovemaker isn’t the smallest of apps, but then again it’s got an fair amount of file-weight since it includes lots of really high-quality apps.

Quick hands-on: Jamie Oliver 20-minute meals App (iPhone/iPod Touch)

For those of you that don’t know him (and there might be a lot, since he’s a UK chef) Jamie Oliver is a celebrity chef, in the same sort of mould as the likes of Gordon Ramsay – and by that, I mean he’s an export that has filmed his TV shows in the US, and a number of other countries I’m sure! Anyhoo, the point of this quick hands-on is to find out if his new cooking App is any good (hint/spoiler: yes)! Read more after the jump….

GrooveMaker Electro and D’n’B released for the iPhone/iPod Touch

IK Multimedia has announced the release of two new applications for the iPhone/iPod touch: GrooveMaker Electro and Drum ’n’ Bass (D’n’B). These complete the range of available GrooveMaker applications with two new style-based apps that allow anyone to create and share non-stop Electro and D’n’B tracks for DJing, remixing, multimedia and movie soundtrack compositions on the go, in real-time, just like a professional DJ or music producer. For those of you that don’t know Groovemaker (can’t be many of you; I’ve mentioned it enough times!), it is ’simply ace’- better than spending 10 mins playing a game, you can instead spend 10 mins knocking up a quality dance choon! GrooveMaker allows for instantaneous control over 8 stereo loop tracks, making it possible to remix the included massive loop library of drums, bass, bass drums, lines, pads, percussion and effects

Sprint Cuts Phone as Modem from Simply Everything Subscribers

Those of you who were getting comfortable with the breadth of Sprint ( NYSE: S )’s Simply Everything plan and partaking in the odd smartphone tethering will be in for a rude interruption.  Some heated discussion on the Sprint forums has revealed that phone as modem service is no longer available for Simply Everything customers, although a Sprint employee vehemently defends the decision, saying that PAM has always been an add-on, and anyone tethering up until now was doing so outside the purview of their contract. Sprint VP David Owens has confirmed the change and that there won’t be a PAM add-on available for Simply Everything any time soon. There are always workarounds, like My Tether for the Pre, and TetherBerry for BlackBerry ( NSDQ: RIMM ), but that’s more work than a lot of users would like to put in; clearly Sprint is more interested in hawking their mobile broadband access through WiMAX routers

WIND Mobile Put on Hold by CRTC

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, our wireless regulatory north of the border, has just put the brakes on wind Mobile’s planned launch this November over concerns of Canadian ownership. You see, 65% of the parent company, Globalive, is owned by an Egyptian telecom called Orascom, and according to the CRTC, that weighs too heavily on wind ’s day-to-day dealings. Specifically, the Telecommunications Act states that a carrier must fullfill three criteria to operate: (a) not less than eighty per cent of the members of the board of directors of the corporation are individual Canadians; (b) Canadians beneficially own, directly or indirectly, in the aggregate and otherwise than by way of security only, not less than eighty per cent of the corporation’s voting shares issued and outstanding; and (c) the corporation is not otherwise controlled by persons that are not Canadians.

The multi-year agreement is made to make mobile search and geo-location services easier to use by the carrier’s customers, while at the same time helping Google become ever more powerful player in the mobile industry. This, of course, is not to say Orange won’t benefit from the deal, as well

Verizon Not Worried About Network Strain from DROID

Arvin Singh, Verizon ( NYSE: VZ )’s Illinois-Wisconsin director of data sales, is feeling pretty confident about their network handling Motorola droid demand. “We’re anticipating the Droid will be a blockbuster, but we’re not adding any new backhaul or new EV-DO carriers for the launch. We’re not anticipating the network will take a hit on this.” That’s big talk, considering VZ still has no idea just how popular the droid will become, but even then, if they’re trying to take a jab at AT&T ( NYSE: T )’s network buckling under iPhone traffic , it’s not exactly a fair comparison considering droid sales won’t come anywhere near iPhone’s, and the network strain will be proportionally minuscule.

There is only one way someone can beat Google at the mapping game now

Yesterday Google launched Google Maps Navigation for Android 2.0 and with it crushed the stock prices of Tom Tom and Garmin , makers of dedicated navigation devices. The question of whether or not we’ll see Google ( NSDQ: GOOG ) Maps Navigation come to other platforms has yet to be answered, but knowing Google’s previous moves in the mapping space, it’s pretty much an inevitability.
