Mobile Spy brings silent monitoring to Android

Retina-X Studios unveiled the Android version of its Mobile Spy application, allowing users to silently monitor GPS locations, incoming and outgoing SMS, and call information of employees or family members. The application, which is also available on other platforms ( iPhone , Windows Mobile , BlackBerry ( NSDQ: RIMM ) and Symbian), runs in stealth mode and no mentions of the program are shown inside the device. After activities are logged, they will be (again) silently uploaded to the user’s private online account, which is later on accessible from any web browser

iPhone app success story: Pizza Hut generated $1 million in sales

Remember Pizza Hut’s cool iPhone app ? It proved as a smashing success, generating $1 million in sales! To be fair, we’re not sure whether the company would generate these figures even without the dedicated application, but it certainly helped make the famous pizza maker more cooler in eyes of the iGeeks. What’s more impressive is that the iPhone app has been introduced only three months ago and that’s in the U.S

OpenGL ES Arrives on BlackBerry, 3D Gaming in Tow

Gaming on BlackBerry ( NSDQ: RIMM ) has never been what you would call breathtaking – a few low-key casual games here and there and the preloaded Brickbreaker could handle the lion’s share of twitchy boredom. Well, the platform is taking a big jump as OpenGL ES support has gone official and is currently available in the beta BlackBerry JDE we had mentioned earlier. The in-app purchacing sounded vaguely iPhone OS 3.0, and OpenGL even moreso, but between these multimedia improvements and BlackBerry’s existing expertise in productivity, the whole platform is feeling a lot more balanced

RIM Announces Flash Tools for Developers

While Adobe might be taking potshots at Apple ( NSDQ: AAPL ) for not providing the footholds to get Flash on the iPhone, RIM has announced that upcoming versions of Creative Suite 5 will allow developers to import Flash content in a BlackBerry ( NSDQ: RIMM )-friendly format through the Eclipse JDE plug-in. So, yeah, Flash on BlackBerry. We had heard this was coming, and it’s great to see something good and official, though we’ll only really understand the scope of this announcement once we see developers do something with it (similar to the Google ( NSDQ: GOOG ) Gears and widget support in OS 5.0).

The Unboxing: Verizon’s HTC Droid Eris

We’ve already had a chance to play with the HTC Droid Eris from Verizon ( NYSE: VZ ) Wireless, but there’s nothing like a retail package unboxing ceremony to really get up close and personal with a new handset. As the “ying” to the Motorola ( NYSE: MOT ) Droid’s “yang,” the HTC Droid Eris offers Verizon customers a fully capable Android smartphone at half the price of Moto’s headlining Droid , and it deserves some of our undivided attention

Google promotes the Moto Droid on its homepage

We do know Motorola ( NYSE: MOT ) and Google ( NSDQ: GOOG ) have worked together on the Droid, but still we haven’t thought we’ll see the search giant promoting the smartphone on its homepage, which is known for not carrying any ads at all. There are no doubts in my mind, Google bets heavily on Android and I’m guessing this is their way to show the true iPhone killer is now available, sporting the latest version of Google’s mobile OS – Android 2.0.

Father of the internet integrates intergalactic IP protocol into Google’s Android

Vint Cerf, who many herald as the father of the internet, it was either him or Al Gore, neither you or I really care, is one hell of a forward thinking individual. He developed Delay Tolerant Networking (DTN) in the late 1990s because he knew that one day men and women would be flying all around space, and the ping between Earth and Mars, which can have a round trip time of up to 40 minutes, is not well suited to looking at LOLcats and all the terrible remixes of that scene in Der Untergang where Hitler is in the bunker freaking the fuck out. The Internet Protocol Suite, more commonly known as TCP/IP, which was invented in the 1960s, and further evolved in the 1970s, is what drives the series of tubes that you and I use on a daily basis.

Rumor: Next generation iPhone to be RFID enabled

Chalk this one up as a highly suspicious piece of information, but Einar Rosenberg, who is in charge of the Near Field Communications group on LinkedIn, a social network no one really uses anymore except those trying to find a higher paying job and to show off which fancy schools or companies they’ve worked for, is saying that a highly reputable source has told him that there are 4th generation iPhone prototypes floating around with a built in RFID reader: Had to share this news. A highly reliable source has informed me that Apple ( NSDQ: AAPL ) has built some prototypes of the next gen iPhone with an RFID reader built in and they have seen it in action. So its not full NFC but its a start for real service discovery and I’m told that the reaction was very positive that we can expect this in the next gen iPhone
