Ford’s ‘Send To SYNC’ Beams Google Maps Directions to Ford SYNC Vehicles

We’ve been writing about Ford’s SYNC service for quite some time now, and who can blame us, their continual update to their service calls for some attention. Today is another one of those updates, but this by far has got to be one of the coolest updates yet. Ford announced today a new update to their SYNC service called “Send to SYNC” that will allow users to send destinations from Google ( NSDQ: GOOG ) Maps to their SYNC Traffic, Directions, & Information (TDI) App on their Ford vehicle.  The way it works is the user would look up directions in Google Maps, to which the option to send the directions to their Ford, Lincoln or Mercury vehicle will be available via a “send” menu on the site

Camera-Based Gesture Control for Android Offered by eyeSight

Gesture recognition through a smartphone’s camera certainly isn’t something we’ve never seen before, but it’s a rare sight on Android. eyeSight, based out of Israel, has been working on Symbian for awhile now, and is making the jump to Android, allowing you to mute incoming calls, navigate GPS menus, documents, and web pages, control music, and play games by waving your hand over the camera.

Sprint offers tips on how to improve Sprint HTC EVO 4G battery life, including carrying an extra battery

There’s no doubt that the Sprint HTC EVO 4G has a huge problem with battery life – that’s one of the few “cons” we mentioned in our EVO 4G review . What with the most sought-after Android phone of 2010 boasting a 4.3-inch display, a 1Ghz processor, and an Android 2.1 OS that’s capable of running all your apps at the same time, it’s no surprise that the EVO struggles to stay powered for more than a full day-light cycle.

This was just part of the new policies Microsoft laid out for its upcoming mobile platform, which is expected to hit by the end of the year

Garminfone gets real – We go hands on with the T-Mobile Garmin Asus Garminfone

The Garminfone just got really real. T-Mobile ( NYSE: DT ) today held a little media event to show off their new Garmin-Asus Garminfone and we had boots on the ground in New York City to put hands on the new GPS navigation-oriented Android phone from the Garmin-Asus duo that brought us the decidedly underwhelming Nuvifone line of half-baked nav phones. This time around, Garmin-Asus has ditched their Windows Mobile and the customized Linux OS that was used on the Nuvifone M20 and G60 , respectively

iPhone Wins Because of Purpose not Product – TED Talk

“People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it” seems like a concept a little far-fetched for us techies bent on the hard specs, but TED Talks speaker Simon Sinek makes a good case for it, especially when applied to Apple ( NSDQ: AAPL ) and the iPhone . I kind of resent putting them on the same pedestal as Martin Luther King and the Wright Brothers, but the logic is largely sound. Basically, Sinek proposes that people buy products because they align themselves with a company’s cause for being, not because their products they produce are necessarily innovative or useful

AT&T offering early upgrades to loyal iPhone customers?

Likely because the launch of a new iPhone is on the horizon, AT&T ( NYSE: T ) has been nice enough to bump up upgrade eligibility to June 21st, instead of November 21 as previously seen. Could this mean that AT&T just wants you to buy the latest iPhone, or does it signal that maybe Apple ( NSDQ: AAPL )’s handset will be sold on two carriers this year? With AT&T shortening the upgrade eligibility for users, it will be losing a lot  of money in subsidies but it still wants its customers to upgrade so they are locked into some sort of contract

Video: Microsoft KIN TWO unboxing and initial impressions

Microsoft’s KIN lineup of consumer oriented not-so-smartphones has just gone official. Since Microsoft ( NSDQ: MSFT ) unveiled the KIN phones last month, the company has been mostly quiet about their consumer-friendly, social network-savvy slider phones. But, that didn’t stop us from getting our hands on our very own Kin Two! While Marin drops some knowledge about the more compact Kin One , I’ll be taking you on a brief hardware tour of the Kin Two.

Microsoft Kin One (Kin1) unboxing and hands-on video and pics

We have Microsoft ( NSDQ: MSFT )’s Kin devices in the house! I’ve been fondling the oddly -shaped Kin One (or the Kin1 , if you prefer) and we decided to do unboxing and setup videos. The social networking handset comes in a pipe-bomb-like tube and inside is the standard instruction manual, USB cable, charging port, headphones and the handset itself. The Kin One has a distinctly unique design – it’s a rounded vertical slider that kind of looks like a Pre but is much, much smaller at 3.25″ x 2.5″ x .75″
