Novatel Wireless MiFi 2352 Launches in Hungary with Pannon

Novatel Wireless today announced that Pannon, one of Hungary’s leading mobile operators, is the first Hungarian operator to launch Novatel Wireless’ MiFi 2352 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot. For those of you that don’t know/remember, the funky little MiFi takes a 3G SIM card, and creates a mobile network connection, then spews out a WiFi connection locally that can channel through the mobile connection – meaning in simple terms, you have a portable mini-WiFi cloud at your disposable – a nice change from the chunky USB mobile broadband dongle most of us are familiar with! The internal (ROM) storage, up to 16GB of expandable memory via MicroSD creates a flexible and robust platform capable of supporting a variety of location-based applications and enabling the storage of personal content such as music, video and pictures.  MiFi does not require any type of installation or previously installed software.

Nippon Airways To Offer iPhone Connection Service for New York City to Tokyo Travelers

In today’s world, it seems a lot of smartphone users tend to rely on their own entertainment to get through air travel.  Movies, TV shows, even games can keep us busy for a good chunk of our flight.  Nippon Airways recently announced they will be making some changes to their New York City to Tokyo flights, one of which is the addition of allowing passengers to connect their iPhone / iPod to their individual LCD screen to display videos and pictures.  Best of all, the iPhone / iPod connectors also charge your device while it’s being used. You would think this kind of service would only be available to first-class fliers, but thankfully, Nippon Airways is offering the service to all of their passengers.  I definitely see the benefit for offering this service since I for one love to watch some TV shows or movies that I’ve got ready for travel, but having the video right in front of you instead of your lap can make the experience that much better.  All I ask is that no one bugs me for a spare earbud to watch an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm along with me.  I likes to hear my Larry David with both ears, thank you very much. Now… if I could only find a reason to fly to Japan… Related News from IntoMobile: United Airlines becomes iPhone/iPod friendly Netflix bringing ‘Watch Instantly’ streaming movies to iPhone

Rugged Motorola Quantico lands on MetroPCS

MetroPCS ( NYSE: PCS ) will be adding (in Q4) a new rugged handset in its offering – the Motorola ( NYSE: MOT ) Quantico, which BTW is already available on other smaller carrier – US Cellular . The mil-spec 810F compliance that’s included in-box means Moto’s baby can resist water dunks, heat and dust, all while providing users with a 3G connectivity (EV-DO) over 800 and 1900 MHz frequencies. Rest of the specs (aside from the mentioned 3G radio) includes a low-end 1.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth connectivity support, GPS and a microSD memory card slot.

Switzerland already prepares for radio spectrum auctions in 2013

Switzerland is probably one of the most organized countries in the world. In that sense I was not surprised to learn that the country’s Federal Communications Commission (ComCom) has already instructed the Federal Office of Communications (OFCOM) to prepare the allocation of mobile radio frequencies which are either currently free or which will become free in the foreseeable future for tender in the course of the next year

DeviceAnywhere adds support for Android

Mobile application testing platform DeviceAnywhere is (finally) including Android to the mix, providing developers accessing the DeviceAnywhere Test Center with the tools and resources to “bring innovative and compelling mobile experiences to market at a minimum cost.” As a result, interested developers will be able to remotely access a regularly updated library of Android devices, including the recently launched Motorola ( NYSE: MOT ) Droid and HTC’s Droid Eris; as well as the existing models such as the T-Mobile ( NYSE: DT ) G1/HTC Dream, Motorola CLIQ/DEXT, HTC Hero and Samsung Moment. In addition, DeviceAnywhere also said that Vodafone ( NYSE: VOD )’s HTC Magic, and T-Mobile myTouch 3G will be added in the near future, too. The company emphasizes that it has worked in collaboration with both carriers and device manufacturers to make sure its database is always up to date… More information is available from DeviceAnywhere’s website .

ABI Research: Mobile accessories to turn over nearly $55 billion in 2009

ABI Research’s latest report says that by the end of this year, the world’s mobile handset accessories market will have chalked up a value of nearly $55 billion, representing a small decrease from the 2008 figure. The problem seems in the memory card segment market, which has been oversupplied, with selling prices being barely above production costs — something that could unfortunately change in the future. The good thing, however, is that handset makers are more often than not bundling higher capacity memory cards with their products, and now we have few handset models shipping with 8GB cards

Giesecke & Devrient’s sticker enables contactless payments

Giesecke & Devrient (G&D), the company we’ve already seen co-operating with Nokia on mobile payments and fighting counterfeit products, has developed a new form factor for debit/credit cards called Convego Air Mobile, which has a form of a sticker, enabling contactless payments. Once the thin and pliable foil has been affixed to a mobile phone or PDA, the device can be used to pay bills at all terminals supporting the contactless MasterCard PayPass standard

NTT DoCoMo shows off modular handset with display, keyboard and projector!

My buddy Ron over at picoprojector-info.com has come across a new NTT DoCoMo ( NYSE: DCM ) device that is packing some serious goodies! The handset is called the “Separate Keitai F-04B” (made by Fujitsu ( OTCPK: FJTSY ), and can be separated into a display unit and a keyboard unit. The two can communicate via Bluetooth, and when they are connected they behave like a QWERTY slider

Brief: Bill Lee, lawyer who represented Broadcom, will represent Apple in case against Nokia

Law.com posted something that probably very few IntoMobile readers care about, but I’ll share it none the less: In Nokia ( NYSE: NOK )’s big patent showdown with Apple ( NSDQ: AAPL ) over iPhone technology, it will be Alston & Bird versus Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr. Wilmer’s co-managing partner Bill Lee made an appearance for Apple on Tuesday in a stipulation filed in Delaware federal district court. There may be no lawyer in America more familiar with the technology behind smart phones than Lee

Video: Nokia’s Vision of 2015: People are unable to connect in real life, so they resort to devices

Nokia ( NYSE: NOK ) recently spent an excessive amount of money to produce a 4 minute video showcasing what they think the connected world of 2015 will look like. The first narrative focuses on a French businessman who recently relocated to San Francisco. Apparently he is antisocial because the “closest thing to a boy’s night out” is sitting in front of a television screen, watching a football match, while having a video call with 3 of his friends across the pond.

Samsung Senior Vice President Don Joo Lee: We’re not making Symbian devices anymore

Samsung, who is a member of the Symbian Foundation, is supposedly going to stop producing Symbian devices by 2011 if a report from Digitimes is to be believed. Senior Vice President Don Joo Lee said the South Korean company will continue to focus on Android, Windows Mobile, and the yet to be revealed Bada , mobile operating systems. By 2012 Samsung will have only 20% of their smartphone portfolio running Windows Mobile, with the rest being split between Android and Bada.

HD Video: iPhone App: “Speed Forge Extreme” is a Wipeout clone using OpenGL ES 2.0

Speed Forge Extreme is an obvious clone of Sony Computer Entertainment’s Wipeout franchise, but we’ll let that slide for a second because what the developers at RatSquare have done is simply stunning. Thanks to the OpenGL ES 2.0 support in the iPhone 3GS, full screen motion blur effects are now possible. No word on pricing or availability other than “It is coming to iPhone and Android soon”

Nokia 5230 coming to T-Mobile USA?

File this under “rumors” but it seems T-Mobile ( NYSE: DT ) will not only be known for its Android efforts and as a carrier that will probably (we still don’t have this 100% confirmed) carry the Maemo-powered Nokia N900 . The Deutsche Telecom-owned operator may also get to offer the Nokia 5230 . Or at least we’ve spotted a device that looks pretty much like Nokia ( NYSE: NOK )’s Symbian S60-running smartphone at the FCC .

Israel’s Defense Forces working on an SMS rocket alert system

Israel’s Defense Forces (IDF) is working on a text message rocket alert system. The system, which will be installed within two years and will work alongside existing air raid sirens, will automatically send an SMS to all phones in the area that could be endangered by a missile attack. The technology behind the SMS notification relies on the advanced rocket sensors which will soon have the ability to calculate the projectile’s exact trajectory.

More BlackBerry OpenGL in Action: PBA Bowling and Super Monkey Ball

Need For Speed played the poster boy role for RIM’s OpenGL ES announcement, but they’re definitely not the only ones who are excited about the new options for developers.  Here’s a quick demo of Concrete Software’s PBA Bowling , coming to the BlackBerry ( NSDQ: RIMM ) Storm2. Sega also said that they have started work on getting their extremely successful Super Monkey Ball franchise onto the Storm2

3M lowers the price of their pico projectors

You might be wondering what a pico projector is, or alternatively you may have a very good idea – however, for those of you that are not au fait, these little (being the operative word) bad boys are a miniaturised version of the old desk projectors we used to know and love at school. However, these things don’t show transparencies, nor do they connect to PCs (typically) – no, no – instead the pico modules fit inside of small housings akin to that which you’d find in a mobile device! Now, to-date, things have only just started to evolve, but 3M reducing their prices of their dedicated modules is a good example of where things are going

TrailBlazer Sim Memory Reader Pro is a bargain at MobileFun!

These days, phones have evolved quite a bit – some of them even think they are multimedia computers However, there’s still a need for decent backup solutions – certain devices have quite elegant ones (the iPhone and iTunes come to mind), whereas are slightly more, shall we say, functional. So when I came across the “TrailBlazer Sim Memory Reader Pro” from MobileFun, I was pleasantly surprised. It seems to blend the most effective way to get data between a mobile device and a computer (sideloading), with some decent connectivity and software to help you manage file movement: The TrailBlazer Sim Memory Reader Pro is a must-have accessory for transferring or backing-up your mobile phone’s files and sim contacts.
