Let’s get out of this country, we’ll pick berries and recline: All aboard the USS Ark from Escape From Earth 2012!

“Baby, let’s blow this popsicle stand.” That’s the snappy dialogue you can expect to see in the screenplay I’m writing about a man who takes up Escape From Earth 2012’s offer . You see, there’s a company out called there EcsapeEarth2012 that’s offering you the chance to leave this dumb planet before everything explodes in an orgy of stardust and iPhone cases come December 21, 2012. So, you buy a ticket, then if the apocalypse does, in fact, arrive, you board the spaceship and it takes you to a brand new planet, one that’s fit for humans

The courts say don’t blame Apple if your iPod caused you to go deaf

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco upheld a 2008 ruling that stated the iPod does not pose an unreasonable risk for hearing loss even though everyone knows the old stock iPod earbuds were the worst earbuds ever made. (I added that last part) The original case argued that because the iPod earbuds were designed to sit so far back in the ear, and the iPod itself does not have any volume meters or noise-isolating properties, that the device could be made safer. But the courts just told the plaintiffs to shut-up and sit down

It seems that Clayton Morris, from FoxNews, has confirmed from a “source inside Apple” that there will be a “big” event in January 26th. This source also stated that the event will focus on the mobility space, which could actually mean a lot of different things.

2009’s top products for Amazon: Kindle, Dan Brown, and “Twilight”

Amazon has just released its “Best of 2009″ lists, showing the top-selling devices, books, DVDs, and such from this, the final year of the aughts. And although 2009 has not brought us hovercycles or Lunar colonies, it has brought us love-stricken vampires and a great number of replacements for paper-based book products, both of which sold extremely well

The Owen E1 E-Book reader brings some sexy curves to e-readers

E-readers don’t always have to be stark slate’s of modern art and the Owen E1 E-Book is anything but. You just know by looking at it that it’s comfy to use and should fit into more pockets thanks to its rounded edges and smallish 5-inch screen. But it doesn’t matter, you probably won’t be able to buy it anytime soon.

The Dulin’s Books Boox 60 packs Wi-Fi into a $350, 6-inch e-reader

The US e-reader market is about to get one more player when Dulin’s Books brings its Boox 60 reader to the States in the middle of January. But even though it packs a lot of tech into its shell like W-Fi, Wacom technology, and a Webkit browser, chances are it won’t ever make it mainstream thanks to the Kindle , Nook , and Reader . Even still, the Boox 60 demands respect with an impressive spec list: microSDHC slot, Wi-Fi, 512MB of memory, 1,600mAh battery, MP3 playback, 6-inch touchscreen, text-to-speech and a dozen different support file formats

Packaging Slip-Up Hints At New 8GB iPhone 3GS

This label could point to a new 8GB iPhone 3GS, a replacement for the current $200 iPhone 3G. The picture was snapped by a German T-Mobile customer, David, and posted to the Apfeltalk forums. David was supposed to receive a refurbished 8BG iPhone 3G, the cheapest model in the iPhone lineup.

iGuide and iSlate — Two Potential Name Candidates for an Apple Tablet?

Apple’s apparent filing for the “iSlate” trademark and purchase of the iSlate.com domain has some convinced that iSlate will be the official name of Apple’s rumored touchscreen tablet. Some more digging around led to the discovery of a trademark application for “iGuide,” which bears striking similarities to the iSlate application.

Are U.S. Drones Really Being Watched With a Simple “Satellite Internet Downloader?”

Either the WSJ hasn’t taken their anti-crazy pills or there is something severely wrong with the military industrial complex. I’m betting on both. The story says, essentially, that insurgents in Iraq are “taking control” of our pilotless drones with a $25 piece of software called SkyGrabber .

Shaimus finally releases a music video for “Like a Fool”

Look. It’s 1 AM, I’ve had a few too many White Russians, and something out on the street outside of my apartment keeps making a horrible buzzing noise. Don’t bother me with that “WHY IS THIS ON A GADGET BLOG?” nonsense

Report: Sharp and Philips agree on LCD TV deal

The consolidation process in the TV business continues and now even becomes international. Just last month, Sharp inked a “historical” joint venture deal with former rival Sony , agreeing to supply LED backlights to Sony for their LCD TVs (which happened this month). And now Japan’s biggest business publication, the Nikkei, has learned that Sharp now plans to deliver LCD TV panels to Dutch electronics giant Philips.

WTFComcast: Best Blog Ever?

A few weeks back, for the first time in the history of mankind, someone actually paid attention to the description snippets that accompany Comcast’s On Demand videos. Within seconds, it was clear: whoever was writing the descriptions was bat shit insane. And with that, WTFComcast , a blog which highlights the oddest of Comcast’s oddities, was born.

Twitter App for the Zune HD: It works, but it’s buggy and censors tweets

Oh now this is exciting. Microsoft released a Twitter application for the Zune HD a few moments ago, and I’ve been tasked with testing it out for your edification. Spoiler: it works, it’s buggy, and I can’t see the sense in using it

Bag Week: The Vega & Corsair from Chrome Bags

I put up a hand-on of these two bags a few months ago, but I have to repost it. Not only in the spirit of Bag Week , mainly because I’ve found after using both bags over the last few months, my initial conclusion was dead on: These bags are rad. Features: Cordura outer shell with a 18oz weatherproof tarp liner behind Seatbelt webbing strap Technically utility bags so no padding to protect your computer Made in the US and guaranteed for life Both have an $80 MSRP Pros Lightweight but still durable Tarp liner makes them very weatherproof The Vega is a perfect size for an 11-inch notebook Cons Straps get bunched up on the buckle So what makes these bags so good?

Zero Punctuation on Demon’s Souls: it’s too hard!

This week, Yahtzee takes on the game that is, to me, the best reason to buy a PS3 right now: Demon’s Souls .This innovative title was hailed widely by critics as a return to the old-school “you die now” style of gaming many of us grew up with, but it doesn’t sit quite right with Yahtzee. Of course, he doesn’t mention the controls, graphics, depth, or anything other than the fact that it’s groin-punchingly hard, so you can bet he thought all that was great and just didn’t want to say so

FTC accuses Intel of ‘strengthening its monopoly,” slaps it with a lawsuit

Looks like Intel is in a bit of Dutch. The Federal Trade Commission sued the company for using its position in the market “to stifle competition and strengthen its monopoly.” Not good, no

Nerd Alert: Calculator shaped like a gamepad

Awww, schweeeeeet! This calculator says, “Hey, I need a calculator but I want people to know that I’m down with video games. Please don’t step, mess, or front. I got eight digits to work with, B.” Shaped like an Xbox controller, you’ve got a D-pad with add, subtract, multiply, and divide keys, number pad right in the middle of everything, functions on the right, and big fat CE and equals buttons.

Nexus: Did Google Dream of Electric Lawsuits?

Isa Dick Hackett, daughter of the paranoid science fiction genius Philip K Dick, isn’t happy about the new Googlephone. The still unofficial handset may or may not be called the Nexus One, but Isa is already “shocked and dismayed” about intellectual property infringement, according to the New York Times : Roy Baty and his replicant cohorts in Dock’s novella Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep were all Nexus-6 models. This is utter nonsense, of course, but the fact that PKD’s daughter is taking legal counsel about the naming of a still non-existent product certainly has a fitting irony.
